AMY WINEHOUSE: THE DIVA AND HER DEMONS

Rebellious, adamant, gifted, Amy Winehouse was – first and foremost – a jazz singer. This often gets lost within the scope of her enormous pop stardom, her tempestuous love life and substance-abuse problems. She passed away aged only 27, but if we really want to understand how Amy Winehouse died, we need to look at how she lived…
Amy Winehouse – The Diva and her Demons unpacks the brief and impactful life of this once-in-a-generation talent who captured the imagination of both the mainstream pop chart and lovers of the timeless soul music of yesteryear. This award-winning cautionary tale/tribute show features 12 of Amy’s hits acoustically interpreted for a live trio. With Kerry Hiles (bass), Rob Thompson (guitar) and Kristo Zondagh (drums).

“Interspersed with nuggets of factual information about Winehouse’s difficult life and her struggles with alcohol, drugs and an eating disorder…Hiles must be commended for bringing Winehouse’s voice back to stage” – DEVON KOEN, HeraldLive
“…a lively celebration…Hiles brilliantly changes between accents throughout the performance, making it feel as though it was indeed Winehouse reincarnated on stage.” – Anoka Latchmiah, Grocott’s Mail
“Powerful! An absolute must!!” – Lynn Lucka Rich, audience review
“In depicting Winehouse’s rollercoasting life and times, Hiles, who also wrote the show, paints vivid vignettes of the diva’s battles with drink, drugs and lovers. With dialogue, song and deft switches of accents, Hiles offers a captivating chronicle of Winehouse’s rise and fall and, in a clever onstage costume change, marks the diva’s progression from her early career to her darker days… Hiles’s versatility never fails to impress and her connection with the songs here, as always, is remarkable. She fully captures the magic and the angst of the Winehouse world…” – Billy Suter, SoSuterBill
